I am 48 years old and my entire life I’ve have heard was taught and lived the Vietnam War era. There are songs, movies, and documentaries that have been playing my entire life. The good, the bad and the crazy have been presented to me a million different ways!
So the other day when it was announced that Covid-19 has taken more deaths then the entire Vietnam War I had to take pause and put that together in my head. First, my estranged father was involved in the Vietnam War. His personality and erratic behavior over my lifetime were always blamed on that War. His drinking, verbal and mental insults to us kids and mother always went back to that crazy war that resulted in, I really don’t know. Protests, War Memorials, Monuments all over this country created a love/hate and basically the downfall of U.S. President Nixon, among other things. Even though his policy was to end the war, which took more than 5 years, it is documented how he actually escalated the war with secret bombings, raids, missions, etc.
Now I am not writing this to debate the Vietnam War. But I find it a little strange and crazy how in the year of 2020 more than 66,000 people have died from a serious virus and President Trump continues to downplay, misinform and frankly politize how great of a job he as done over something that has now become a bigger threat to the…
